Solarglass – Elon Musk tweeted out a new trademark name
Elon Musk is an entrepreneur famous for companies such as Tesla Inc and Space X. But he has also acquired the, at the moment any way, less successful company SolarCity, now a subsidiary of Tesla, Inc. SolarCity markets, manufactures and installs residential and commercial solar panels.
Elon Musk is a controversial figure not afraid to say what he wants when most people would prefer his silence. But whatever you think of Elon Musk nobody can deny that he is a visionary.
Using Twitter, he reaches out to his nearly 30 million followers often exploring new ideas. On Friday evening (CET) we found out that he is an avid fan of the smash hit Tv-series Game of Thrones (GoT) when he told his followers that he thought his solar panels should be called Solarglass, as a tribute to Dragonglass, the most efficient thing that could kill a white walker in GoT.
A great name indeed and a name that would fit excellent with the product.
But what Elon Musk didn’t do before telling the world about his idea was to see if anybody else uses Solarglass as a trademark or has filed for a trademark application at the trademark office before going public. A cardinal error in the trademark world but also a very common mistake that we have seen way too much of. An error which can be very costly.
So dear Elon Musk, continue being a great visionary and entrepreneur but let us take care of your company’s trademarks, let us do the necessary checks.
